The first of our competitions took place and as you would expect, that was the Blind Pairs. A total of 51 legs were played on the evening and it was John Cost and Kev Parsons that were victorious.
In the first of our semi-finals, John Cost and Kev Parson beat Guy Ellis and Garth Hodgkiss 3-1. And in the second Semi, in a very close match, Pete Bailey and Dave Moule edged out Andy Mitchell and Colin Denyer, 3-2. It could have gone either way.
In the final, John and Kev (JK) went into a 2-nil lead over Pete and Dave (PD), not giving them a chance at a double. In the third leg, PD pulled back a leg, leaving JK on 174. Game on. In the fourth, Dave Moule contributed 140, 140 and 180, but 3 trips to the board for DP without finishing the leg cost them, and JK came down and checked out 59 in 2 darts. DP pulled in back to 3-2 in the fifth and in what was a very close final leg, JK checked out 92 in 3 darts to win the match 4-2, with DP sat on 20 having missed the double to pull the contest level. Clinical finishing from John and Kev won the day, over the high scoring of Dave and Pete.
Each leg of the final was very consistent in terms of quality, with 601 being finished in between 21 and 26 darts typically. There was one leg that didn’t conform to the norm, and that was a 34 dart leg which impacted the averages considerably. Both pairs were running on an average of 24.14 and 23.40 respectively, but that one leg dropped the final average to 22.67 and 22.23, with DP coming out top of the averages.
A shout out to Stewart Clackson who checked out 160 in the one leg they won against Andy Mitchell and Colin Denyer. By the way Stewart, that 160 doesn’t count towards the Highest Checkout competition! Sorry if there were any other high checks I missed. Likewise, two 180’s from Dave Moule in the final won’t sadly count towards his maximum tally for the season.
It was another enjoyable evening. Thank you to the Wolversdene Club for hosting the event.
