Impact of England World Cup Fixtures on the Summer League

The Summer League is scheduled to start on 16th June and we will be delaying the release of the full fixture list till we know where England finish in their group.

England potentially play up to three Tuesday matches, depending on where they finish in their group. As we do not play league matches on nights when England are playing, we need to build flexibility into the schedule.

Proposed Approach

To minimise disruption and reduce the overall delay, I propose the following:

  • Release fixtures for the first week only.
  • Pause the league on 23rd June for England v Ghana.
  • Play the Blind Pairs on 30th June. By this date, we will know England’s final group position and therefore which Tuesday fixtures may be affected.

On the night of the Blind Pairs, I will then release the full fixture list for the remainder of the season, based on England’s confirmed schedule.

Why This Helps

England’s group position determines how many Tuesday matches could clash with our league nights:

  • If England finish top: They will not play another Tuesday match.
  • If England finish second: A potential Semi‑Final would fall on Tuesday 14th July.
  • If England finish third: The Round of 16 match would be on Tuesday 7th July.

By waiting until England’s group outcome is known, we can set the fixture list with certainty and avoid unnecessary blank weeks.
