Winter 2024/25 – week 17

The clash at the top between Andys Boys and Out of Towners finished in favour of the top side, Out of Towners winning 18-8 and now 24 points clear. Foreign Legion continued their impressive run, this time beating Wolves Z 15-11, and in doing so, moved to 5th place level on points with Grand Central but a game in hand. Foreign Legion also have a game in hand over 4th placed Town Central and sit only 23 points behind, can they close that gap? With the game in hand scheduled for next week, and playing each other in the last game of the season, both sides have everything to play for. Town Central themselves won 18-8 against Queen Charlotte. Owing to sickness, Daves Railroaders had to cancel their second fixture of the season, this time against The Arms. We are hoping to find a solution, so they fulfill the fixture. The Arms are in 3rd, 16 points behind Andys Boys but a game in hand. Their last match of the season could be another top of the table clash, a great way to finish the winter season.

There were 3 players all hitting 12 tons this week, they were, Kev Parsons, Andy Jurd and Andy Harvey. It looks unlikely that anyone will catch Andy Harvey, who now sits 31 tons clear, although David Moule and Kev Parsons will have the opportunity to close the gap when they play their re-arranged fixtures. There was also 11 tons from Rob Doran and Paul Walker with 10. It was probably the smallest number of maximums this week, with only Stuart Giddings, Graham Howard and Stewart Clackson hitting 180 apiece. That had no impact at the top of the 180s competition, with Paul Walker 6 clear of Sam Ellis at the top on 20 for the season. We had a 140 checkout from Colin Denyer and a 130 from Paul Walker, but the target still remains Stuart Giddings 161. The Fastest Leg currently sits at 11, held by Tom Smart and Paul Walker. And probably the most prestige of all the competitions, the Most Legs Won, Andy Jurd moved 5 clear on 65 for the season. If you do the math, he needs 2 legs in his final fixture against The Arms to be crowned champion. That isn’t as easy as it sounds and I’m sure David Moule and Sam Ellis will want to stop his. They both have 2 games left and only 9 and 10 legs respectively behind.

Next week is a spare week and there could be two fixtures being played:

  • Daves Railroaders v Foreign Legion
  • The Arms v Daves Railroaders

We are hoping to play both games at the Wolversdene Club, a double header, to help Daves Railroaders fulfill their postponed fixtures. Hopefully in time for the last week (22nd April) of the season, when everything will be decided:

  • Town Central v Foreign Legion
  • Wolves Z v Andys Boys
  • Out of Towners v The Arms
  • Daves Railroaders v Grand Central
