That must be one of the closest seasons we’ve seen across the board. There was no competition left unchallenged, up till the very final week, any position could have changed which is great to see.
We start with the league table; 10 points separated the top two teams and first result in on the night was Out of Towners 16 Foreign Legion 10. That put Out of Towners 26 points clear at the top. Arms A were playing Queen Charlotte and with such a quality side, anything was possible. Unfortunately for Arms A, they dropped 2 legs in the first couple of singles, winning 24-2, resulting in only 2 points separating 1st and 2nd. With 10 legs, the Foreign Legion secured 3rd spot so it didn’t matter what the result was between Grand Central and Town Central, FL couldn’t be caught. Grand Central went on to win 16-10 in their local derby.
Kev Parsons started the night 3 legs clear in the Most Legs Won competition and after a close match with Steve Ballard, a 3-2 win was enough to take the title. David Moule won 5-0, closing the gap to just 1 leg. In the Most Tons Competition, Andy Harvey lead by 2 tons and having hit 10 on the night, Kev fell just short with 8, meaning Andy Harvey retained his title by 4 tons. It was even closer in the 180s competition, David Moule hit one on the night to extend his lead by 2 maximums, and there was last minute effort from Sam Ellis who hit 3, but not enough to break into the top 3. Rob Doran also had a brace on the night. I’m pleased to see no one stole away the Highest Outshot, who would have thought 156 was enough. And in the Fastest Leg challenge, 3 players shared the spoils with 12 darts, that being Rob Doran, Kev Parsons and Chas Barstow.
Thank you everyone for yet another great season, it’s wonderful to see it’s a competitive environment with no out and out winners. The competitions remained competitive up to the final night.
Congratulations to Arms A for retaining the Team Knockout for a 2nd season in a row. David Moule as now won the Singles competition the last 3 times. In the Pairs, the top two players were drawn together, Kev Parsons & David Moule, so it wasn’t a surprise they lifted the title. That meant Kev Parsons has won the Pairs competition twice in a row.
The presentation for the Summer season will follow the Winter AGM on Tuesday 14th October. So come on down and register for the coming Winter season. Winter kicks off on 28th October.
Thank you to all our sponsors for their continued support, if you would like to continue supporting the league, Andy will be in contact shortly. With your support, it’s helping to make the competition more competitive, giving the players something to fight for and that is appreciated. Also without the venues, where would we play. Hopefully giving a team a home also helps bring in some much needed revenue, so if you are a pub or club in Andover, please reach out if you would like to register a team for the coming season.
