Tonight was the Les Brant Singles at the Wolversdene Club. 16 players took to the oche and in the most random draw, teammates were drawn against each other, including father and son, and tonight’s winner David Moule took on each and every one of his team, one round at a time.
It could have been the Final but Winter 2023/24 Singles Winner Sam Ellis faced David Moule in round one, David Moule winning 3-1. Fast forward to the Semi Finals and up first was Rob Hayes against David Moule. David went into a 3-nil lead, including hitting a maximum along the way but in leg 4, Roy Hayes missed the bull for a 130 checkout, hitting a 25 instead. David then checked out immediately after, winning 4-0.
In the second semi final Andy Jurd took on Colin Denyer. Colin was playing some awesome darts hitting multiple ton and above scores, but Andy was clinical on his doubles and went into a 2-nil lead. In the third leg, Colin almost finished 156, missing double 18. Andy set himself up on 170 but Colin didn’t give him a chance to have a go, taking out 36 for a 16-dart leg. Andy started the fourth leg strong with a 180, his second of the match, winning the leg on 42. Andy went on to win 4-1 win, in a final leg that saw him miss 124 on the bull, but finished 31 in 3 darts when he returned to the oche.
In the final, David Moule went into a 2-nil lead, winning in 20 and 18 darts, checking out 119 in the second leg. He extended his lead with a 24-dart leg, before Andy Jurd finally turned up, hitting 150 to leave tops, which he took out in 1 dart for a 16-dart leg. But it was David’s day, winning the final leg in 18 darts, finishing 78 in 3 darts. David had a final average of 25.83 (77.49) and Andy Jurd an average of 21.97 (65.90).
On the night David Moule played 16 legs of darts, winning 14 and only dropping 2 legs, for a 87.5% win rate, a deserved winner. Likewise, Andy Jurd played 19 legs, winning 11 for a 58% win rate.
